JASPER CO., SC (WTOC) - The driver of an 18 wheeler avoided injury Monday morning after his truck was struck by a train.
A CSX train hit the tractor trailer on Okatee Fire Truck Road off of U.S. Highway 17 between Hardeeville and Ridgeland. The driver was crossing over the tracks when he bottomed out and got stuck. He tried to warn the train, but the engineer couldn't stop in time. The Moody's Hauling truck was carrying log truck equipment, which was thrown into a ditch.
"He actually got out of the truck to try and slow it down. The train is a little more than 9,000 feet long and there was no way they could stop," said Wilbur Daley, Jasper Co. Emergency Services Director.
Despite all of the damage, no one was hurt in the accident.
