Memorial Day School to promote breast cancer awareness

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Memorial Day School is celebrating its 40th Anniversary Homecoming this week.

The festivities will lead up to the Blue Thunder's football game on Saturday against region rival Nathanael Greene from Siloam, Ga.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Memorial Day School is working with the Curtis and Elizabeth Anderson Cancer Institute at Memorial University Medical Center to promote cancer awareness.

Before the game, there will be a pause to remember and honor cancer survivors and those who are fighting the battling cancer.

Memorial Day football players will be wearing orange hope stickers on their helmets. Players will also be wearing pink socks and shoelaces.

A representative from each grade (from Pre-K through 12th grade) will be carrying pink flowers to honor or remember someone from Memorial Day School during the halftime crowning ceremony of the 2011 Homecoming Queen.
