Hospice Savannah to unveil Veteran Memorial

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The Chief of Staff for the Department of Veterans Affairs will be the guest of honor Friday at a ceremony to unveil a new monument honoring veterans.

John R. Gingrich, the chief of staff for the Dept. of Veterans Affairs, will be attending the ceremony at 10 a.m. Friday. It will take place at Hospice Savannah's Hospice House at 1352 Eisenhower Dr. in Savannah.

A bust, created by local sculptor Susie Chisholm, and monument honoring veterans will debut at the event.

Hospice Savannah received a gift and endowment from Jim and Polly Strickland of Bloomingdale. Jim Strickland is the son of Master Gunnery Sgt. E-9 Roy L. Strickland, USMC, Retired, who died under Hospice Savannah's care. Funds were designated to create the memorial, according to Hospice Savannah.
