Equipment failure causes fuel spill in the Savannah River

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The clean up effort continues Saturday night at the Georgia Ports.

The Georgia Ports Authority says around one thousand gallons of diesel fuel spilled into the Savannah River while a ship was refueling.

Officials believe equipment failure may be to blame.

The Georgia Ports says boons were quickly released into the water to clean the fuel up.

The Coast Guard and an outside environmental group also responded.

Officials say the spill is under control.

Fortuantely, no one was hurt. The investigation is on going.
