Celebrating a man who dedicated his life to serving our community

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - A big celebration was held Saturday night for Colonel McArthur Holmes.

After more than thirty-three years with the Chatham County Sheriff's Office, Colonel Holmes is retiring.

Family and friends came together to thank him for his outstanding service to our community.

Homes says, "it's a feeling that you can't really describe. To think that many people really care about you and support you. You never really know how many lives you touched. It lets you know how people feel about you and the love and the care they have for you."

Colonel Holmes was the first african american to hold the position of Chatham County Jail Administrator and he was responsible for overseeing more than 400 employees and volunteers.
