BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC) - A firefighter is being hailed a hero after cutting an entangled shrimper free from a sinking boat.
A man and a woman were shrimping in the Beaufort River Saturday morning near Pigeon Point about 60 ft from a dock when their boat began to sink. Beaufort-Port Royal firefighters threw a rescue disk to the couple and were able to pull the woman to shore. The man's arm was caught in a line, still attached to the boat.
Fire Inspector Stephen Baske jumped in the water, swam out to the boat, cut the man free and swam with him against the tide back to the dock.
No word yet on the shrimper's condition.
