SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - A man was arrested and charged after a standoff with police on Sunday.

Savannah-Chatham Metro Police said that Laron Allen, 24, barricaded himself inside a northwest Savannah home.

Allen was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, obstruction by fleeing and theft by receiving stolen property.

Police said officers were checking out a suspicious car off of Carolan Street on Sunday morning and saw two men sleeping inside with guns in their laps.

The men then took off in different directions with Allen, barricading himself inside a nearby house, according to police. That's when the SWAT team was called in to end the standoff.

"Initially, he was not in the first apartment, but they had wound up in the attic some of the sheetrock had been kicked out. So we knew the suspect had possibly gone to other apartments," said Gena Moore, the public information officer with SCMPD.

One person was inside the home, but made it out safely.

Police are still looking for the second suspect.
