Woman Burned in Suspicious Fire

A bizarre story begins with a suspicious fire in Ardsley Park and had Savannah-Chatham police and firefighters trying to solve a mystery. About 2am this morning, firefighters were notified of a blaze at a home near the corner of 49th and Battey Streets. When they arrived on the scene, police notified the firefighters there may be someone inside the apartment building.

They pulled out a burned woman from the first floor apartment and called EMS. Firefighters were also told a one-and-a-half-year-old baby may still be inside. They put out a small fire that appears to have started in the first floor bedroom, and searched the house twice for the child, but came up empty.

The burned woman was taken to Memorial Health for treatment. Savannah-Chatham police detectives finally located her baby about 5am this morning. The child was with a babysitter in Rincon.
