Reward offered in Swainsboro church arson

STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) -

Georgia fire marshals could pay up to $10,000 for information about a fire that destroyed Calvary Methodist Church.

Swainsboro Fire Department Chief Mike Strobridge confirmed there is a reward offered by the state for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the fire.

A worker at Swainsboro's Wal Mart on U.S. Highway 1 saw flames from across the highway around 2:30 a.m. Sept. 29 and called 911. The fire destroyed the sanctuary and classroom buildings from a church that was originally built in the 1950's.

Investigators from the Fire Marshal's office determined arson as the cause of the fire on Friday. Call the Georgia Arson Hotline at 1.800.282.5804 with any information. All calls are kept confidential.
