Safe Shelter volunteers raise awareness with purple ribbons

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Safe Shelter volunteers are tying purple ribbons to the trees in Savannah's Forsyth Park. The color purple represents domestic violence awareness and the ribbons are a way to encourage abuse victims to come forward and get help at places like Safe Shelter.

"I have people coming up saying I didn't know you were here. I didn't know we had all these services, and I have somebody in my family, I have a daughter, I have a niece, I have a coworker," said Cheryl Branch, Safe Shelter Executive Director.

Safe Shelter will also be hosting a 5k walk at the end of the month to support abuse victims. Visit for more information.
