BURTON, SC (WTOC) - Some lowcountry firefighters are going pink. To kick off their efforts, Burton firefighters presented breast cancer survivor, Theresa Manning, with one of their new breast cancer awareness T-shirts. The firefighters will be wearing the new work shirts with pink lettering and a pink ribbon on the sleeve throughout the month of October.
"It's a very hard journey. So I think early detection and awareness is important. This is definitely going to make people aware and urge their loved ones to get a mammogram and to get checked," said Manning.
"Firefighters like to be competitive and help people in need. We can't think of a better organization to help in the month of October than breast cancer awareness," said John Perry, Burton Fire Dept.
The firefighters all chipped their own money in to purchase the new breast cancer awareness work shirts.
