SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Some Savannah pets received a special blessing Oct. 4 in Lafayette Square.
Bishop Elect Gregory John Hartmayer sprinkled the beloved pets after the noon mass. The Bishop, pet owners and the pets were all celebrating the Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi. Saint Francis is best known as the Patron Saint of animals and the environment. Hartmayer says the annual event means a lot to those who attend.
"There was one man here today who said would you please bless my dog she has cancer and so I did. That means something to the man," said Hartmayer.
After the blessing, the Bishop took time to pose for pictures and talk with school students and animal lovers alike.
