October is World Habitat Month

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The Coastal Empire Habitat for Humanity is holding events in October as part of the celebration for World Habitat Day.

Three events are coming up. On Oct. 8, Habitat Savannah will hold its 111th Home Dedication. Habitat Savannah will dedicate the Grant family home located at 2009 Essex Ave. in Tremont Park at 1 p.m.

Grant recently purchased the home that was constructed by over 400 Savannah volunteers, including staff with the Savannah branch of Wells Fargo Advisors.

There's also a pumpkin patch fund-raiser and festival on Oct. 8 at the Olde Savannah Garden and Produce at the corner of Montgomery Crossroads and Marcus Place. The festival runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Activities will include face painting and an inflatable bounce house. For each pumpkin sold through Oct. 31, a donation will be made to Habitat Savannah.

Habitat Family Fun Day takes place Oct. 22. It takes place 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Habitat Savannah's ReStore located at 1900 E. Victory Dr.

Volunteers from SCAD will host hands-on children's activities such as kid-friendly building projects, imaginative building at our Lego/Lincoln Log center, origami house design, creative and eco-friendly jewelry design, and story time. Activities are free and geared toward pre-k through second-graders.

The Family Fun Day marks the beginning of Habitat Savannah's "Building Houses Building     Hope" annual giving campaign that runs through January 2012. Their goal is to raise $50,000.
