RINCON, GA (WTOC) - A Rincon Microtel Inn and Suites front desk clerk is recovering after she was beaten and tased several times by an armed robber.
"We would have given him the money and he could have left. Nobody had to get hurt," said the victim's co-worker Jamie Marshall.
The terrifying moments were all caught on surveillance video. The video shows a man with his face covered entering the hotel through a rear door just after 4 a.m. Tuesday. He's then seen peeking behind the front desk, holding a large knife in his left hand. A few moments later, another security camera catches the suspect busting into an employee only door that leads behind the front desk. There he attacks the unsuspecting female worker. Police say the man then used a stun gun on the woman's forehead several times.
"She was bleeding from the head and she couldn't speak when they found her," said Marshall.
While the woman was helpless on the floor, her attacker is seen taking money out of the register and then runs away, but not before dropping a couple of bills on the ground. Police caught him a short time later.
"As deputies surrounded the area, he was located walking in the Westwood subdivision approximately 30 to 45 minutes after the robbery," said Major Scott Lewis with the Effingham County Sheriff's Office.
Michael Pollett, 25, is the man deputies arrested. He's facing charges of armed robbery, aggravated assault, and possession of a knife during the commission of a crime.
The victim's co-workers say Pollett dramatically changed the life of the newly married mother of five.
Marshall said, "She had everything going for herself and everything was looking really good for her and then somebody comes in and does something like this. It's senseless."
