St. Helena man fatally shot

ST. HELENA ISLAND, SC (WTOC) - The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal shooting of a St. Helena man on Wednesday night.

Deputies were called just after 10 p.m. Wednesday to a home on Fripp Point Road on a report of a person shot. Julius Edward Chaplin, 44, was found lying in the driveway of his home with several gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Chaplin was found by his girlfriend, who had been inside the home at the time of the shooting, according to the sheriff's office. She was unable to provide any details on the shooter because she didn't  witness the incident. At this time, no motive has been established for the slaying, according to the sheriff's office.
