Man charged after high-speed chase

GARDEN CITY, GA (WTOC) - Marquis Alexander is facing a slew of charges after leading police on a chase in a stolen SUV.

It all ended off of Georgia Highway 21 near Interstate 95 in Port Wentworth at about 3:30 a.m.

Garden City police say they tried to pull him over, but he took off. Police said that when he veered into oncoming traffic, Port Wentworth police ended up using a Police Intervention Technique maneuver to stop him. Two females were also in the SUV.

"Would not ordinarily peruse but when he blew through that intersection at 307 and 21 and he reached the speeds that he did, it became a felony and we had to do what we had to do to get him off the street," said David Lyons, Garden City Police Chief.

"Whatever we can do to help each other out because ultimately it affects the whole community and we want to continue to partnership with other agencies to keep the highway safe," said Matt Libby, Port Wentworth Police Chief.

Police say the vehicle was stolen out of Savannah, but has a Glynn County tag.
