SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The clerk for the city of Savannah has denied Ruel Joyner's candidacy for the District 1 City Council seat.
The decision means Joyner, the owner of furniture store 24e, is no longer eligible to run for the position.
Joyner had planned on running against 1st District Alderman Van Johnson and says he checked with the Chatham County Board of Elections before announcing his campaign and answered all of their questions for qualifying.
A challenge to Joyner's residency had been filed by West Savannah resident and community leader Kenneth Dunham.
Joyner said he is going to appeal.
