Savannah Unity Bicycle Ride to take place Oct. 8

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The Savannah Unity Bicycle Ride is set to take place Saturday. The event will help the tens of thousands of wounded warriors that are in need.

The ride will help to raise awareness and money for the Wounded Warrior Project. Folks who want to help signed up at a discounted rate of $12.50 on Oct. 6. The man behind the event was sent overseas to fight.

"Sgt. Maj. Soto of the 3rd I-D Black Hawk Helicopter Pilots.  It is passion and calling to have a bicycle ride here in Savannah to support the Wounded Warrior Project. He got deployed, so there's a group of local Christian men that decided to put on this bike race for him," said Robert Bendetti, volunteer leader.

Soto will be back just in time for the ride, which starts at 8:30 a.m. at the intersection of Bull and Liberty Streets.
