BLUFFTON, SC (WTOC) - The Bluffton Township Fire District kicked off National Fire Prevention Week with an open house.
Families got to tour the station, check out the fire trucks and explore a fire safety house. The fire safety house teaches children the dangers of playing in the kitchen, the importance of having a smoke smoke detector and how to escape a fire safely.
"It's a unified message we're sending out to the public to make them aware of safety issues in the home, to protect themselves from fire," said public education officer Sandy Stroud. "The more you're prepared, the better you're going to weather a fire in your home, especially with kids."
Departments throughout the nation will be holding events throughout Fire Prevention Week.
