Strong winds shut down popular island festival

TYBEE ISLAND, GA (WTOC) - Wind gusts Sunday reached up to 55 miles per hour in some areas.

The clouds rolled in and the winds picked up, blowing down tree limbs and scattering debris. Tybee Island Fire Chief Skip Sasser told WTOC the winds were so strong on Tybee Island, they had to shut down the Pirate Festival early for the public's protection.

Chief Sasser said they are worried about the weather. Wind gusts are expected to reach close to 60 miles an hour on Monday.
