SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The Italian Society of Savannah came together to celebrate Columbus Day on Oct. 10 at The Westin Savannah Harbor.
They celebrated the man who sailed the ocean blue back in 1492, as well as all of the great accomplishments that Italians have made in Savannah.
"We're trying to cultivate and prolong the Italian culture in Savannah by teaching it to the young guys coming up that are just entering the business world, just married with kids. We learn it from the older guys, the older gentlemen who've been in the society a lot longer than I have," said Kim Iocovozzi, Italian Society of Savannah President.
This yearly celebration opens its doors to many other heritage societies around town including the German Heritage Society, the Hibernian Society, and the Saint Andrew's Society just to name a few.
