SCREVEN CO., GA (WTOC) - A woman accused of shooting a deputy to avoid her court hearing faced the judge Tuesday morning as scheduled.
Crystal Shyrock asked for a continuance on a 2007 probation revocation.
She was enroute from the Chatham County Jail to Screven County for the hearing. Investigators say she used a deputy's gun to shoot the deputy in the leg in an attempted escaped.
Another deputy and an eyewitness kept Shyrock from getting away.
Screven County Sheriff Mike Kile said Deputy Katherine Griffin faces a long recovery. She is recovering from surgery on Tuesday morning.
"She's having to have a rod put in her leg, because the bone was broken in two. So two to three hours of surgery probably," Kile said.
Before the shooting, Shyrock faced a 15-day sentence and one month probation.
She now faces aggravated assault on a police officer and other charges and remains in jail.
