BEAUFORT, SC (WTOC) - HM1 Heather Tapp has made it her mission to help her fellow sailors be physically fit, helping them meet their physical requirements.
"We hold P.T. sessions," said Tapp. I coordinate with other people that are as interested in the programs as I am and we work together to lead P.T. session.
As the Assistant Command Fitness Leader, she holds physical training sessions Monday through Friday for the sailors. A volunteer position, she enjoys.
"I've been doing it since I was a 3rd class. I just pick it up at every command I go to," said Tapp. "It's near and dear to my heart and I try to take the program and personalize it. It seems to be effective."
"She's very outgoing, energetic, motivated. She really has a passion for fitness and health." said Evett Moore, Naval Hospital Beaufort.
In addition to these duties, HM1 Tapp is also a Preventive Medicine Technician serving on Parris Island.
She has served in the Navy for 12 and half years and has had all kinds of opportunities.
"What I love most about the Navy is the travel and just the opportunity of working with all the different walks of life in the Navy," said Tapp. "I came from a small town in Wyoming so joining the Navy is a whole other world for me."
For her service and dedication to our country, WTOC salutes HM1 Heather Tapp.
