SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Three men who exceeded the expectations of their duties received Firefighter and Firemedic of the year awards on Oct. 12. The awards were given out by the Exchange Club of Savannah.
Douglas Lewis was named Rookie Firefighter of the Year, Christopher Morgan was named Firemedic of the Year, and Deputy Chief Max Nowinsky won Volunteer Firefighter of the Year. Nowinsky said that it is not just winning the award that means the most.
"To me, the most significant thing about the award is the people who select the recipients are your peers. These are the people you work with day in and day out. For them to feel like it was deserving of me to receive this award really means a lot to me," said Nowinsky.
The awards are given out every year during the annual ceremony and luncheon.
