CAT to launch new late-night bus service

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Chatham Area Transit will launch its new late-night weekend service it's calling the CAT Prowler.

The weekend night shuttle bus will run between Savannah State University and downtown Savannah. The route will serve the Colonial Grand apartments, Jasmine apartments, Alhambra apartments and the Island Tree apartments.

The new route is a result of a partnership with Savannah State University.  

SSU Students can ride the CAT Prowler for free with a valid student ID; all other customers pay the regular fare, which is $1.50 one-way and roundtrip  is $3 .

The CAT Prowler shuttle will run from 8 p.m. and  2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights. The first shuttle bus headed for downtown departs from SSU at 8 p.m. The last shuttle bus from downtown to SSU departs at 2 a.m.

A news conference is scheduled for 5 p.m. Thursday at SSU's new student union to announce the new service. Those scheduled to attend include, Pete Liakakis, Chairman of the CAT Board of Directors; Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Chief Willie Lovett; and SSU's Interim President Cheryl Davenport Dozier.
