SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - White Cane Safety Day is set to take place on Oct. 15. The national holiday is to raise awareness for the blind.
People marched from Drayton St. to the Old Federal building in Wright Square on Oct. 14 in celebration of the holiday. Each year the Savannah Association of the Blind, the National Association of the Blind Chatham county and Savannah Council of the Blind put on the event. They say the turnout is really inspiring.
It's exciting. The more people that come out and support us the better. Part of the reason we do this every year is to raise awareness into what the white cane means," said Kim Harrison, White Cane Day marcher.
