Search underway for escapee who stole car, beat woman

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police are looking for a man who escaped from a work-release program on Saturday.

According to police, 40-year-old Timothy Jerome Mack did not return to the Coastal Transitional Center as required. They said he stole a woman's car, robbed and beat her, then fled after crashing the car at Heritage and Stuyvesant Streets in the Liberty City area of Savannah around 4 p.m.

The woman told police they were fighting over control of the car when it hit a mailbox and crashed into a ditch. She was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Mack has been serving a five year sentence since October 2007 for theft by receiving stolen property, attempted theft by taking, possession of tools to commit a crime, entering vehicles and obstruction of a law enforcement officer. He is described as a black male, about 6-foot-1, weighs 205 with brown eyes and short black hair. He may or may not have a moustache.

Anyone who knows where Mack might be is asked to call Crimestoppers at (912) 234-2020 or text CRIMES (274637). In the body type, include "CStop2020" plus the tip. Tipsters remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.
