Civilian accidentally shot by 11 year old on Fort Stewart

The civilian who was accidentally shot on Fort Stewart Saturday evening was shot by an 11 year old, according to Fort Stewart officials.

The shooting happened around 5:45 p.m. at the Hunting Preserve. Civilians do not need to have a tie to the military to hunt on post.

According to Fort Stewart officials, the victim is a Richmond Hill resident and was treated and released at Memorial Hospital. However, the name of the victim has not been released by Fort Stewart because the individual has no ties to the military.

The shooting remains under investigation.
