HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC) - Breast cancer survivors got celebrity treatment Sunday night on Hilton Head Island.
Hargray Communications, the Hilton Head Hospital and celebrity chef Robert Irvine teamed up for the event held at Irvine's restaurant, Eat. It included a pink carpet for survivors, a silent auction and dinner. Irvine said he drove five hours after filming his television show to host the event.
"My father is a cancer survivor, breast cancer in fact. He had a mastectomy last year," said Irvine. "There's nothing better to say than these people have survived cancer and it's great to show them respect and give them a dinner worthy of kings."
"It's very heart-warming, the bringing together of these people and their passion for fighting this disease and for raising awareness is really quite remarkable," said Eddie Andrews of Hargray Communications.
October is breast cancer awareness month.
