TYBEE ISLAND, GA (WTOC) - A man in Pennsylvania on several felony charges was captured Monday by the U.S. Marshals Service Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, the Chatham County Sheriff's Office and the Tybee Island Police Dept. at a Tybee Island hotel.
Christopher Ghrist, 22, was sought on drug and firearm charges. He escaped from custody of Pennsylvania State Police and headed south to Georgia.
An intensive investigation was conducted by the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force that indicated to investigators that Ghrist had traveled to Tybee Island, according to the task force.
The investigation led SERFTF to the Rodeway Inn on Butler Avenue on Tybee Island.
Ghrist was arrested at the Rodeway Inn on Butler Avenue without incident. A stolen loaded semi-automatic 9mm pistol was also recovered from the hotel room, according to the task force.
He was taken to the Tybee Island Police Dept. to await local proceedings and possibly more charges. He is awaiting extradition proceedings for his return to Pennsylvania.
