CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) - The Chatham County Sheriff's Office and Drug Enforcement Administration held a press conference on Oct. 18, announcing an upcoming prescription drug take back day for safe and proper disposal of pills and medication.
Around 400 pounds of pills and prescription drugs were collected and incinerated at an event in April. Officials say that it is an effective way to keep pills from getting in the wrong hands.
"We want to try to encourage people to empty those medicine cabinets and keep children from getting them. In any event, don't flush them down the commode because it's not good for the environment," said Al St. Lawrence, Chatham County Sheriff.
Unwanted pills can be dropped off from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 29 at the following locations:
- SouthCoast Medical Group, 1326 Eisenhower Drive
- Wal-Mart, 4725 East Highway 80 on Whitemarsh Island
- Wal-Mart, 1955 East Montgomery Cross Road in Sandfly
