Police say 16 year old killed cross dresser

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Police say they are still investigating the murder of a crossdresser that happened early Monday morning.

Police say 26-year-old Rashaun Bernard Howard was shot and killed by 16-year-old Jarrett Jones on Bulloch Street near Victory Drive.

Jones is in custody at the Youth Detention Center.

Police say Howard crashed into a car on Bulloch Street after he was shot. The noise woke neighbors just before 5 a.m. Monday.

"I did notice there was some blood on his leg. I knew he was injured somehow, but I was thinking it was from the crash itself," neighbor Oscar Carlers said.

Carlers and the other neighbors first thought Howard was a woman. According to a police report, he was wearing a black wig, a black skirt and a black corset.

Neighbors say he was unresponsive when they found him in the car. They say a 911 operator instructed them to open the car door, and when they did, that he collapsed face first onto the ground.

"It was very alarming to see a collapsed body. We weren't there for very long before SCMPD showed up. Maybe it was two minutes at the most," Carlers said.

According to a police report, Howard was shot in the arm and side. EMS arrived and took Howard to Memorial University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Police found bullet holes and blood in his car.

On Wednesday, police wouldn't release more information saying it was very much an active investigation.
