Victims identified in Hwy. 144 that killed 5

GLENNVILLE, GA (WTOC) -

The Georgia State Patrol in Atlanta has released the names of five people killed in a crash Thursday night on Georgia Highway 144.

Mollie McCurdy, 7, of Townsend; Spencer McCurdy, 2, of Townsend; driver Janis McCurdy, of Glennville, were killed in the Ford pickup that was traveling westbound. Turner McCurdy, 9, of Townsend; was injured.

Jose Antonio Robles-Vera, 22, St. Simons Island, was driving the Isuzu Trooper that was headed eastbound, according to the Georgia State Patrol. Pedro Juan Robles, 24 St. Simons Island, was also killed.

Preliminary investigation suggests the Isuzu crossed over into the westbound lane, Janis McCurdy moved left to avoid them and the Isuzu veered back into its original lane and hit the McCurdy vehicle head-on, Gordy Wright, public affairs officer with the Georgia State Patrol, told WTOC.

McCurdy was the owner of McCurdy's on Main, a store in Glennville. She also spent several terms on the Glennville City Council. She was very active in the renovations of the Glennville City Auditorium and in various city beautification projects.
