Soon-to-be-married couples battle it out for a chance to win big

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Passion and adrenaline were in the air as hundreds of lovebirds gathered downtown Savannah for a "Diamond Dash."

300 couples made a mad dash through the downtown area, trying to win a $10,000 Martin Flyer diamond ring from Levy Jewelers.

Participants had to submit a short essay telling their story to be one of the selected couples.

The couples had to solve riddles that were texted to their cell phones at different locations across the city, using location-based mobile gaming technology in order to find the ring.

Levy Jewelers' merchandising manager, Stacy Sullivan says, "Scavenger, the company, does this all over the country and they actually approached us and thought it would be a good idea because of the grid system with the squares in Savannah and that it would be wonderful for the city of Savannah and for our young bridal couples."

Levy Jewelers partnered with the Coastal Empire of the United Way to raise nearly $1,000 for the non-profit organization through donations.
