EFFINGHAM CO., GA (WTOC) - While kids and their parents are gearing up for Halloween, the Effingham County Sheriff's Office is doing its part to keep kids safe.
On Halloween night, all registered sex offenders on probation will be required to report to the sheriff's department between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.
Chief investigator, Don White, says the office has been requiring sex offenders to report to the department for the past few years, and it has been effective in keeping sex offenders from re-offending.
"The biggest benefit is to help sex offenders stay out of trouble and not put them in a situation where they are going to do something they might regret," says White. "It helps parents feel better with their children on the streets."
White says there are around 65 registered sex offenders in Effingham County.
