SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Gov. Nathan Deal and top port officials from all over are in Savannah on Wednesday for the U.S. Southeast Freight Mobility Forum.
The panel discussion began at 8:45 a.m. at the Savannah Hyatt Riverfront.
At the annual State of the Ports luncheon on Tuesday in Atlanta, Deal said that Atlanta-area businesses shipped more than $9 billion through the ports of Savannah and Brunswick and that's just further proof the harbor deepening project must move forward.
The project would deepen the Savannah River by 6 feet to allow larger container ships into Port of Savannah.
Deal and Atlanta's mayor said they've met with President Obama's administration to clear more federal funding for the $600 million project.
