Bryan Co. sheriff: Driver rammed deputy's car

PORT WENTWORTH, GA (WTOC) - Bryan County Sheriff Clyde Smith tells WTOC that the suspect involved in Tuesday night's chase was driving behind one of his deputies, slammed into the back of his patrol car and sped off.

That deputy, who was not injured, began following the suspect.  When he ran the tag, the pickup truck came up as stolen out of Florida.

The sheriff said that the suspect has several outstanding warrants.

Port Wentworth police said the driver was Edwin Arroyo.

The deputy's car eventually stalled out, but several others were involved in the chase at, which ultimately ended in Port Wentworth.

The pickup truck flipped over into a ditch on Georgia Highway 21 just west of Interstate 95.

Port Wentworth firefighters had to remove the driver through a window. Arroyo was arrested by Port Wenworth police.

At least one Port Wentworth police cruiser was damaged during the chase.

Arroyo is being held at the Chatham County Jail.
