Verdict reached in SCAD student murder trial

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - A verdict has been reached in the murder trial of a Savannah College of Art and Design student.

Jurors worked late into the night Oct. 27, considering the case of two men accused of killing the student in a botched armed robbery and home invasion.

Just a few minutes ago the jury of eight women, four men asked the judge to hear the 911 tapes again.

Investigators say Alex Cowart, John Adams and Daniel Izzo broke into 20-year-old Sean Giroir's Barnard Street home in October 2010. The men were armed and trying to steal money and marijuana. They argued and fought down the street and Giroir wound up shot to death.

In testimony on Oct. 27, witnesses say Adams was in the getaway car and the defense claims Cowart shot Giroir in self defense. Izzo made a plea deal for testimony in the case.
