SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Chatham Area Transit's new schedules went into effect Oct. 24.

The changes were approved by the Chatham County Board of Commissioners in August.

As part of the changes, a new route has launched. The Express Route, the 114, provides expedited service along Abercorn Street, connecting downtown Savannah with retail destinations at the Oglethorpe Mall, Wal-Mart on Abercorn Street, the Savannah Mall, and the Phillips-Winters Apartments for the Disabled.

CAT also has partnered with Savannah State University to provide two new shuttles, the blue shuttle and the orange shuttle, that run between SSU's campus and surrounding student housing during school hours, plus on-campus shuttles as well.

CAT launched CAT Prowler, a late-night Friday and Saturday service for SSU students that goes from campus to downtown Savannah.
