Drag racers, troopers talk driver safety

STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) - Students at a Statesboro school got some potential life saving lessons.

They saw what can happen if they don't buckle their seat belt. Georgia State Troopers spread the message Statesboro's Charter Conservatory.

A state trooper, who lost his son in a wreck 25 years ago because he was not wearing a seat belt, talked to students.

They also heard from a drag racing team. The Bulloch County Sheriff's Office sponsored the event. The event aims to get students to better understand what can happen when they get behind the wheel.

"Our goal is to save one child's life. If we do that, it will be worth all the time we take off from work and all the work on these dragsters, just saving one child's life," said Wendell Akins, event organizer.
