Police Chaplain Retires

Rev. Asbury King
Rev. Asbury King

After almost two decades of faithful service to Chatham County, police chaplain Rev. Asbury King has given one last benediction as police chaplain. He took it upon himself to deliver the painful news to families who had lost loved ones to violent crime or tragic accidents.

Best known for his brief benedictions delivered with a humble spirit, Rev. King served his fellow peacekeepers as well by providing counsel to those in need. "I love people," he said. "Before you can serve people, you've got to love people. "

Rev. King is the first police chaplain to retire from the newly merged Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department. He was also Chatham County's first black police chaplain.
