Rock 'n' Roll Marathon medical staff meet to plan for Saturday

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Race day is approaching quickly and they want to make sure every runner crosses the finish line. More than 200 medical volunteers had a meeting on Nov. 2 to go over the plan for Saturday. Even with 23,000 runners hitting the pavement, the medical staff says they have got them covered.

"The safest place to be in Savannah on race day is going to be on our race course, or if you're standing in the middle of the emergency room," said Dr. Lewis Maharam, Rock 'n' Roll Marathon medical director.

Dr. Maharam says the biggest risks runners will face are fainting and low salt levels.

To find even more ways to stay healthy for the race, join WTOC for a health and fitness expo on Thursday and Friday at the International Trade and Convention Center on Hutchinson Island. It is free and everyone is invited.
