Residents prepare for Rock 'n' Roll Marathon

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - With the Rock 'n' Roll marathon quickly approaching, residents living on or near the marathon route are bracing for road closures and traffic congestion.

Lilly Wong lives in the neighborhood off of Morgan Street and Broadmoore Avenue in Savannah, two streets that are on the route. Wong says she is concerned about traffic but looking forward to the race.

"It will be an event. I've never seen anything like this before," says Wong.

Orange cones and road closure signs are scattered across Savannah, marking the marathon's route, shutting down many main roads such as Skidaway Road, LaRoche Avenue, Nottingham Drive and Beaumont Street.

However, some business may have to shut down because of the marathon. Malynda Kennedy runs the Savannah School of Cosmetology on Skidaway Road and says she will have to close her business Saturday due to the traffic congestion and road closures.

"It's not good for business because Fridays and Saturdays are our busiest days, so it's going to be tough," says Kennedy.

Some roads will be closed entirely so residents are encouraged to plan their travels accordingly.
