COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – The fire is out and the smoke has cleared, but now questions surround what started the blaze at the old Swift Mill.

Firefighters will continue to monitor the building to assure hot spots don't spark up again.

News Leader 9 learned that a company had applied for a permit to work on the sprinkler system in the Swift Mill in October, and it was approved by the fire department, but work had not begun.

The owner of the old Swift Mill, Pace Burt, had a fence put up around the building and the road directly in front of the building is still blocked off.

Officials are still looking for a person of interest who was seen near the mill before it caught fire.

He is not considered a suspect in the case but officials would like to know if he has any information that may be helpful in solving the case.

Anyone who can identify the person, or has information on his whereabouts, is urged to call the Columbus Fire and EMS Investigative Services at 706-653-3520.

News Leader 9 will continue following this story.
