USS Normandy docks in Savannah

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The Savannah Council, Navy League of the United States is hosting the US Navy guided missile cruiser USS Normandy (CG 60).

The Normandy passed Fort Jackson on Thursday morning and will receive a cannon salute.

On Saturday, about 150 members of Normandy crew are marching in the Lighted Christmas Parade. The parade starts at 5:30 p.m. on River Street and will proceed down Bay, Abercorn and Broughton streets.

Normandy's Commanding Officer Capt. Joe Creed is the featured speaker at the annual Pearl Harbor Remembrance Ceremony at the Mighty 8th Air Force Museum. The ceremony takes place at 2 p.m. Sunday at the museum, which is located at 175 Bourne Ave. in Pooler.

It is co-sponsored each year by the Navy League and the Fleet Reserve Association, includes a 21-gun salute, patriotic readings and music, a firing party from the 3rd Infantry Division, and a color guard from the Savannah Sea Cadet Squadron, according to a news release.
