DOT project earns national award

ATLANTA (WTOC) - The Georgia Department of Transportation's widening of Interstate Highway 95 in Glynn and McIntosh counties has been named the best rural interstate or divided highway concrete project in the nation.

The American Concrete Pavement Association last week awarded the $119 million project the National Gold Award for Excellence in Concrete Paving award, according to the DOT.

The project it involved adding a third lane along a 9-mile stretch in both directions of I-95. The widening also involved reconstructing two bridges and 10 roadway ramps, according to the DOT.
