SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - IKEA announced Tuesday plans to install solar panels on 10 more U.S. locations, including a Savannah distribution facility.
The panels are expected to be installed at the locations by summer 2012. The nine stores and one distribution center will total 10.7 Megawatts of solar generating capacity, nearly 45,360 panels, and a projected annual electricity output of 15,248,334 kilowatt hours, according to a company news release.
IKEA will own and run the solar energy systems on its buildings. The solar panels on the Savannah distribution center will have 6,250 solar panels that will generate 2,029,500 kWh per year, according to the news release.
The furniture manufacturer and retailer has 12 U.S. solar energy systems running and 11 more are under way.
