Operation Santa Paws donation drive under way

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The Savannah Chatham Metro Police Animal Control and the Savannah-Chatham Humane Society is asking for donations as part of Operation Santa Paws.

Donations help local humane societies throughout the year. They are also collecting toys for the Marine Corps "Toys for Toys" program.

Boxes are located at the SCMPD's five precincts to collect dog and cat treats, toys and other needed items. Donations will be picked up on Dec. 23.

Animal Control is in need of these items:

  • Towels and blankets
  • Pill Pockets
  • Dry/wet puppy and dog food
  • Large or small carriers
  • Cardboard carriers for cats
  • Litter
  • Puppy and kitten replacement formula
  • Leashes and collars for all sizes of cats and dogs

The humane society is in need of these items:

  • Purina Dog and Cat Food
  • Non Clumping Cat Litter
  • New Collars and Leashes
  • Bleach
  • Laundry Detergent
  • 55 Gallon Trash Bags
  • White Copy Paper
  • Towels and Blankets – used are fine as long as they are clean

Items can be dropped off at SCMPD headquarters at 201 Habersham St.; Westside Precinct on Police Memorial Drive; Downtown Precinct at East Lathrop Avenue; Central Precinct at 32nd and Bull streets; Southside Precinct at Oglethorpe Mall near Belk's; Islands Precinct at 54 Johnny Mercer Blvd.
