Christmas lights to return to Guido Gardens

Posted: Updated:

Signs and billboards along I-16 proclaim "Everything's better in Metter". That boast may include Christmas decorations at one Candler County landmark.

The decorations at the world famous Guido Gardens will be turned on Friday night for the 2011 season. The late Reverend Michael Guido began the Christmas tradition 20 years ago after a holiday trip to Opryland in Nashville. Even after Dr. Guido's death, his successors have carried on the tradition. Visitors flock through the garden through the month of December to enjoy the tradition.

"We want people to see the lights and know that there is one light, the light of the world, Jesus Christ," explained Dr. Larry Guido, Michael's brother and president of the Guido Ministerial Association.

The lights will be on and open for viewing from 6 to 9 p.m. each night from Dec. 9 through Dec. 31. Admission is free.
