Savannah woman gets 45 years in son's 2009 death

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - A Savannah woman pleaded guilty Friday to a reduced murder charge in the 2009 death of her 3-month-old son. She was sentenced to 45 years in prison.

Ashley Latoya Mims, 23, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, cruelty to a child and false statements in the March 26, 2009, death of Ervin Eugene Terrell.

Chatham County Superior Court Judge Michael Karpf accepted the plea that was offered by Assistant District Attorney Emily Thomas and Assistant Public Defender Bob Attridge.
